The History of the Golf Course at Colonial Golf & Tennis Club

Colonial Golf & Tennis Club opened in 1910 and was known then as the Colonial Country Club. Our golf course was one of our founding components, and when it moved to its current location in 1954, it continued to be an establishing characteristic of our club. This space was renovated in 2002 by Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest Design Associates to create a challenging yet playable course that highlights our area’s natural beauty.

The Unique Colonial Golf Course Design

Our scenic golf course features a championship layout rated 73.1 with a slope rating of 134 on bentgrass, offering a challenge while still allowing fair play. It stretches 6,868 yards from the longest tees.

Front Nine Design

The front nine of our golf course features various difficulty levels. The holes range in length from a long 545 yards at Hole 2 to a short 160 yards at Hole 5. Many holes have straightaway tee shots, and all are well bunkered. Hole 9 is the course’s number two handicap hole, and while it is not long, it does require an accurate tee shot to avoid fairway bunkers.

Back Nine Design

The back nine features many natural obstacles to navigate, such as mounds, hills, trees, creeks and a pond. You’ll need to skillfully avoid bunkers, manage tiered green layouts and conquer varying slopes to shoot under or at par.

Signature Holes

One of our signature holes is Hole 14, which features a pond down the entire left side of the hole. This scenic hole offers a challenge when shooting to reach the elevated green. We also have Hole 12, one of the most challenging holes, with a long downhill par 3 and a two-tiered green layout.
